Notification of intent to apply for Special Rate Variation – Byron Shire Council

I refer to item [ insert ] of the Guidelines for the preparing of an Application for a Special Rate Variation (SRV) to Council’s general income commencing 2017/2018.

This letter is to advise of the intention of Byron Shire Council to apply for a SRV of income commencing 2017/2018 under section 508A of the Local Government Act 1993 (NSW) as resolved by Council at its Ordinary Meeting held on 15 December 2016 (resolution number [ insert ]).

Council is intending to apply for an SRV to provide additional funds for the specific purpose of funding additional asset maintenance and renewal programs to reduce Council’s infrastructure backlog.

Council’s SRV discussions have been based upon a range of 7.5% to 12.5% increase per annum, inclusive of rate peg over a four year period, and we anticipate that our application will fall within that range.

The proposed increase Council intends to apply for is subject to final consultation and confirmation.
