Dear Sir/Madam,

Notification of intent to apply for Special Rate Variation Ė Byron Shire Council

I refer to item [ insert ] of the Guidelines for the preparing of an Application for a Special Rate Variation (SRV) to Councilís general income commencing 2017/2018.

This letter is to advise of the intention of Byron Shire Council to apply for a SRV of income commencing 2017/2018 under section 508A of the Local Government Act 1993 (NSW) as resolved by Council at its Ordinary Meeting held on 15 December 2016 (resolution number [ insert ]).

Council is intending to apply for an SRV to provide additional funds for the specific purpose of funding additional asset maintenance and renewal programs to reduce Councilís infrastructure backlog.

Councilís SRV discussions have been based upon a range of 7.5% to 12.5% increase per annum, inclusive of rate peg over a four year period, and we anticipate that our application will fall within that range.

The proposed increase Council intends to apply for is subject to final consultation and confirmation.

If there are any queries concerning Councilís intention to apply for a special variation of general income, these can be made to Councilís Director Corporate and Community Services, Mr Mark Arnold on (02) 6626 7155 or email: mark.arnold@byron.nsw.gov.au.

Yours sincerely
