MINUTES OF THE BYRON SHIRE COUNCIL Extraordinary Meeting HELD ON Thursday, 13 May 2021 COMMENCING AT 11:17AM AND CONCLUDING AT 11:40AM

The Acting Mayor opened the meeting and acknowledged that the meeting is being held on Arakwal Country and that we pay our respects to the elders past and present and extend our respect to the Bundjalung clans whose lands and waters are part of the Shire.

MAYORAL Minute

 

No. 3.1                         Filming of meeting by NBN Television

 

 

NBN Television has requested permission to film at the meeting on 13 May to get some new file overlay of a Council meeting.

Resolved that Council authorises representatives of NBN Television to film overlay footage at the Extraordinary / Planning Meeting of Council on 13 May 2021.

Report No. 4.1           Election of Mayor

Resolved  that:

1.      Council determines the method of open voting to be used for the Mayoral vote in accordance with the options prescribed by the Local Government (General) Regulation 2005.

2.      The period of the Mayoral appointment will be until a successor is declared elected to the office of the Mayor following the Local Government election in September 2021.

3.      If the election of Mayor results in a vacancy in the role of Deputy Mayor, election of the Deputy Mayor be conducted immediately following the election of Mayor using the same process outlined in this report.

4.      The newly elected Mayor be appointed as the delegate or alternate delegate for the Advisory Committee, Panel and Regional Committee positions previously held by the outgoing Mayor, as outlined in this report.

5.      Council determines by Preferential Ballot the appointment to the vacant delegate position to Rous County Council.                                                                  (Lyon/Ndiaye)

Election of Mayor:

The returning officer advised that there were two nominations for Mayor being Cr Cameron and Cr Lyon. The election was held by way of a open vote through a show of hands.

Following the election the returning officer declared Cr Lyon elected as Mayor for the balance of the current term of Council.

Election of Deputy Mayor:

The returning officer advised that there were two nominations for Deputy Mayor being Cr Cameron and Cr Ndiaye. The election was held by way of a open vote through a show of hands.

Following the election the returning officer declared Cr Ndiaye elected as Deputy Mayor for the balance of the current term of Council.

Appointment to Rous County Council:

The returning officer advised that there were three nominations for appointment to the Rous County Council being Cr Coorey, Cr Lyon, and Cr Ndiaye. The election was held by way of preferential vote.

Following the election the returning officer declared Cr Coorey appointed to the vacant position on the Rous County Council for the balance of the current term of Council.

 

There being no further business the meeting concluded at 11:40am.
